Job Summary


The Plant Manager is responsible to manage all facets of the operation in Chippawa, Canada to ensure continuous improvements in key operational measures such as Safety, Productivity and Service while meeting/exceeding all plant financial targets.


The incumbent will manage all aspects of plant operations to ensure on-time delivery of quality products globally while minimizing cost, inventory and waste. Implement programs for continuous improvement of customer service, product quality, process yield, reduction of variable and fixed costs, and reduction of inventory. Implement and maintain programs to ensure that the plant meets/exceeds Company requirements for Health, Safety and Environment. Identify and pursue continuous improvement programs for HSE and Quality Assurance. Pursue synergies with other Abrasive Materials sites and implement best practices.


In addition, will manage plant financials such as budgets, purchasing, capital, etc. to meet/exceed business expectations. Prepare appropriate plant information needed to complete Company financial requirements such as strategic plans and budgets. Implement key financial indicators to proactively monitor the plant's progress. Plan and manage Human Resources such as insurance of ethical practice, headcount rationalization, training, performance and bonus evaluations, team building, job descriptions, compensation, etc. Effectively administer the labour contract and achieve business and cost-effective contract negotiations.


The incumbent represents a high level of professional expertise in Quality Engineering discipline and as such concentrates on issues of broad impact and a critical nature for the company. Projects normally focus on issues that cut across product lines, represent major and continuing issues to a significant product area, or involve unique and demanding quality standards.


The incumbent will work closely with customers, production, and other quality personnel to identify the issues, develop an approach, monitor the investigation, and coordinate the implementation of solutions. As a recognized expert, the incumbent's particular contributions will lie in defining the issues evolving non-standard approaches and unique solutions.


The incumbent will be expected to seek out and evaluate potential opportunities to improve quality that have a high impact on the company's profitability and market strategy.


The incumbent is also expected to serve as a major communications link with the profession by participating in professional activities to uncover new developments and represent the company as a leader in quality engineering. As such, he/she will mentor less experienced professionals.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS


Bachelor’s degree in engineering or material science is required.

Master’s degree is preferred (MBA, chemistry, materials science, engineering, etc.)

10 - 15 years of management experience within the abrasive industry preferred

Very strong organizational, interpersonal, management and team building skills.

Excellent understanding of manufacturing including the ability to see broad business issues and be able to develop and execute plans towards objectives.

Must be able to lead by example, allocate resources and utilize sound judgment to achieve the desired end results.

Strong communicator, both written and oral, to upward management as well as reports both direct and indirect.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS


EHS Management

Manage all key aspects EHS reporting and results. Develop a culture that seeks to proactively prevent and reduce EHS risks utilizing all personnel and resources on site. Build a sense of ownership of EHS within each individual and manage the collective activities working toward Zero incidents.


Production Management

Manage all aspects of plant operations and the results that are generated. Ensure continued efforts to consistently improve OTD, quality, production efficiency, costs and inventory management. Develop high level KPI’s for the site that can be rolled down to plant floor objectives and management of plant performance in all key areas. Pursue synergies with other Specialty Grains and Powders sites to help implement best practices.


Personnel Management

Consistently work to coach, mentor and evaluate your site personnel. Build a culture of continuous improvement and accountability through clear goal setting, motivation, coaching, regular feedback and team building. Manage staffing and headcount in alignment with business goals and existing economic conditions.


Capital Management

Manage all aspects of capital plan development and the execution of that plan. Prioritize and oversee key projects to help meet or exceed payback targets developed in the justification.


Strategy development

Link your knowledge and understanding to the site and business objectives to help develop and execute a long-term strategy. Develop a Vision for the site to help guide priorities and challenge the status quo.
