ABOUT THE ROLE


As the Staff Electrical Engineer, you will lead and develop “Bus Health.” You will be a key member of the Quality team, responsible for the qualification of vehicle body controller and systems algorithms for all future products. You will vet Controls and Electronics opportunities to aid with production yields and efficiencies. You will develop the controls and communications logic to determine vehicle health for the first in class zero emission bus. This is a hands-on position working closely with the New Product Development team and strategically with the Advanced Engineering team.


The Staff Electrical Engineer reports directly to the Senior Director, Quality.


Collaborate with cross functional teams to qualify customized algorithms for all sub-systems and components on the bus.

Qualify the controls logic and functional checks in simulation as well as on the vehicle.

Test functional requirements for the body controller, communication interface, diagnostics and fault detection for new development vehicles.

Evolve a deeper understanding of the entire bus and how each component works.

Review revision control for all vehicle software throughout its lifecycle.

Work closely with low voltage and high voltage design engineers to certify the communication protocol required for each sub-system and component. To include functional operational checks both in manufacturing and final vehicle release

Participate in DFMEA sessions to identify technical risks and reduce potential failure modes in the designs.

Participate in supporting the first vehicle of a new bus application.

Participate in training with production support technicians and trouble-shooters on the theory of operations and controls logic behind each sub-system and component.

Work with engineering on complex troubleshooting with on-site production support team and/or remote troubleshooting of issues with the field service team

Data collection and analysis using CAN tools or telematics system to assist with troubleshooting issues in production and in the field.

Support the Validation team by developing test plans to ensure that the design has met all the program requirements.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS


Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.

10+ years of progressive engineering experience in vehicle controls development or related area

Understand open and closed loop control systems for electrical sensors, actuators, body controller.

Proficient with MATLAB, Simulink, and Stateflow chart

Experience with ladder logic controls such as Allen-Bradley or Siemens

Familiar with automotive communication networks such as CAN-Bus, LIN, and Ethernet

Exposure to J1939/CAN tools such as CANalyzer, P-CAN, CANoe, etc.

Understand harness and schematic drawings.

Knowledge of low voltage and high voltage systems design

Hands-on troubleshooting experience with tools such as scope, meter, and power supply in a manufacturing environment

Acquainted with vehicle regulatory such as FMVSS, DOT, and NHTSA

Familiarity with software development using C/C++ or model development.

Familiar with 8D, five whys, and fishbone process to diagnose complex control device and harness issues and propose practical solutions.

Comfortable working around low voltage and high voltage systems

Proficient with MS Office tools such Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project

WORK ENVIRONMENT


Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.

Working environment is primarily indoors (office and production environment), however, at times job may require time spent outdoors.

Regularly required to sit, stand and walk and occasionally kneel or squat.

Limited travel may be required.
