Job Overview:


Saint-Gobain Surface Conditioning serves a multitude of high-end markets, with more than 50% of its sales in the electronics industry, and in particular for the semiconductor market and EV battery market. We are making one of the essential products necessary in the production of semiconductor chips and EV batteries, whose growth is driven by ever increasing demand on cloud storage, IoT and EV, supporting our purpose of Making the World a Better Home.


We have been present in the semiconductor market for several decades. Our alumina particles developed for the semiconductor industry have been recognized by industry leaders as outperforming the competition. We have entered the power electronics market with new generation CMP slurry products for the SiC market about 5 years ago and are currently growing our market share in this market. As new needs have emerged in the semiconductor market, we are currently developing even newer products to address them, directly for fabs or for CMP (Chemical Mechanical Planarization) slurry manufacturers. Our value proposition is based on our ability to innovate both on the particle and on the chemistry side for this market, which is unique in this industry.

We are looking for a business oriented key account and technical Director to grow faster this market, with 10+ years’ experience in the semiconductor market, in a combination of roles including new business development, R&D, and key account management. This position reports to the General Manager of Surface Conditioning. It is supported by a technical manager, located at our plant in France.

The incumbent will have a central role driving the growth of this business, working closely with our 2 R&D teams located in our plant in California, and at the global R&D center of Saint-Gobain in North America, our local sales managers to ensure the day-to-day interaction with the global customers, and the 4 plants manufacturing products for this market.

This role requires excellent communication skills in building strategic partnership. This role also requires having a clear, decisive way of communicating so that he/she can adapt solutions for different needs from various internal and external stakeholders.

This position is based in Worcester, Massachusetts or Anaheim, CA where our slurry manufacturing facility as well as chemistry R&D team resides. This position requires ~30-50% travel time including international travels.

Essential Functions - % TIME


Key account management of customers in semiconductor industry, involving: (1) developing close relationship at the top management level of global semiconductor and power electronic players (2) understanding the needs of the customers for their CMP processes, and prescribe existing or identify opportunities for co-developments – 30%

Develop strategy to grow sales in Semiconductor and Power Electronics market based on New Accounts, new Products, New Services, Geographical expansion, and external growth. Collect, analyse and share information regarding market evolution, competitors, and technology trends. Develop Pricing and Product positioning strategy - 20%

Develop and drive together with R&D director the technical roadmap for product portfolio for semiconductor CMP industry (CMP slurries, chemicals, and nano-abrasive grains for CMP processes in chip manufacturing) - 15%

Develop strong relationships and drive the co-development of new products at CMP particle suppliers (whether internal or external to Saint-Gobain), negotiate contracts as needed (MOU, JDA - 10%

Manage the Technical Manager, and support them in development of relationships with OEM, and any technical matters support to customers - 10%

Address any quality concerns at site level and at client level when technical matter is involved. Ensure swift root cause analysis and corrective action - 10%

Train and leverage sales managers for local day-today management of customers - 5%


Complexity of Role


This position operates in a highly complex global environment that spans markets, products, geographies and cultures. Ability to remain current with global trends in industry, currency, politics and culture are critical to success.


Qualification:


PhD degree Required - Science based. Materials Science or Chemistry preferred.

MBA or equivalent – Preferred.

10+ years of experience Semiconductor, Power Electronics, or CMP industry – Required.

5+ years of experience in R&D in product development in co-development mode - Required

Prior work experience in product management, business development or applications engineering - Highly preferred

A strong technical science background and experience – Required.

Understanding of total quality management concepts, and other quality initiatives. - Required

Excellent communications skills – Required.

The ability to translate goals into tasks, assign resources to accomplish tasks, and communicate results both inside and outside the organization – Required.

Entrepreneurial spirit, not afraid to take risks, celebrating successes of others, and taking responsibility for actions and the results of these efforts – Required.
