Job Description

As a Hardware Verification and Validation Engineer at our drone company, you will be responsible for ensuring the quality, reliability, and performance of the hardware components and systems used in our unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, design, and manufacturing, to develop and execute comprehensive verification and validation plans and processes. Your expertise in hardware testing and analysis will contribute to the successful development and deployment of our drone products.

Responsibilities:

  1. Develop verification and validation plans: Collaborate with the engineering and design teams to define and develop comprehensive plans for verifying and validating the hardware components and systems used in UAVs.
  2. Conduct hardware testing: Design and execute test procedures to verify the functionality, performance, and reliability of hardware components, such as flight control systems, sensors, communication devices, power systems, and other subsystems.
  3. Perform functional and performance testing: Conduct tests to ensure that hardware components meet design specifications, functional requirements, and performance targets. Evaluate the system''s behaviour under normal and extreme operating conditions.
  4. Design and implement test setups: Develop test fixtures, equipment, and setups to facilitate efficient and accurate hardware testing. Ensure test setups simulate real-world usage scenarios and environmental conditions.
  5. Document and report test results: Record detailed test data, observations, and outcomes. Prepare comprehensive reports summarising the test results, including any identified issues, deviations, or improvements needed. Communicate findings to relevant stakeholders.
  6. Collaborate with cross-functional teams: Work closely with the engineering, design, and manufacturing teams to address hardware issues and provide input for design improvements. Participate in design reviews, root cause analysis, and failure investigations.
  7. Ensure compliance and quality standards: Ensure that the hardware components and systems meet industry standards, safety regulations, and quality requirements. Stay updated on relevant standards and regulations related to drone hardware.
  8. Develop and maintain test documentation: Create and update test procedures, test cases, and test protocols. Maintain accurate records of testing activities, test configurations, and test equipment.
  9. Support manufacturing processes: Collaborate with the manufacturing team to develop production test plans and procedures. Assist in the setup and calibration of test equipment and fixtures.
  10. Continuously improve testing processes: Identify opportunities to enhance test methodologies, streamline processes, and improve efficiency. Propose and implement changes to optimise the verification and validation activities.

Requirements:

  1. Education and Experience:
  • Bachelors in Mechanical/Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering.
  • Proven experience in hardware verification and validation, preferably in the aerospace, robotics, or drone industry.
  1. Hardware Testing Skills:
  • Strong understanding of hardware testing methodologies, techniques, and best practices.
  • Experience with test equipment and tools such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, signal generators, and power supplies.
  • Familiarity with test automation frameworks and scripting languages is a plus.
  1. Knowledge of Drone Hardware:
  • Solid understanding of UAV hardware components and systems, including flight control systems, sensors (e.g., GPS, IMU), communication devices, power systems, and payload integration.
  • Familiarity with drone architectures, protocols, and interfaces.
  1. Analytical and Problem-solving Skills:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to identify and troubleshoot hardware issues.
  • Ability to analyse test data and identify patterns, trends, and potential areas of improvement.
  1. Attention to Detail:
  • Excellent attention to detail to ensure accurate test execution, data recording, and documentation.
  • Ability to identify deviations and anomalies in test results.
  1. Communication and Collaboration:
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate test results, findings, and recommendations to cross functional teams.
