Sr. Engineer - Process Engineering

Job Description

1)  Co-ordinate & early involvement with R&D design team on Packaging for all new product development & share improvements required from existing products packaging.

2)  Co-ordinate with R&D sustenance team for improvements required in existing product packaging to improve packaging reliability, yield improvement, packaging rejection reduction, packaging validation & improvement, design of Tooling & Fixtures for product packaging.

3)  Smooth Productionization of the new products packaging, starting from proto assembly, pilot assembly to production handover of first 3 batches with 95% yield.

4)  Responsible for giving inputs to the R & D team during the concept reviews for Packaging DFM/DFA.

5)  Conceptualize, identify the scope for packaging process improvement, packaging productivity improvement by introducing low-cost automation projects.

6)  Evaluates manufacturing / assembly packaging processes at the early stages of the production processes for new products & for existing products packaging.

7)  Develops manufacturing / assembly and assembly packaging processes by studying product requirements, researching testing methods, and conferring with equipment vendors.

8)  Improves manufacturing / assembly packaging efficiency by analysing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout.

9)  Assures product and process quality by designing required packaging manufacturing / assembly processes and assembly with new technologies.

10) Provides manufacturing / assembly decision-making information by calculating   

11)  production, labour, and material costs for packaging.

12) Prepares product and process reports by collecting, analysing, and summarizing information and trends.

13) Maintains product and company reputation by complying with government regulations.

14) Keeps packaging equipment / components operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services.

15) Completes design and development for packaging related projects by training and guiding technicians.

16) Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1)  Packaging Design and Development:

a)  Design and develop packaging solutions that meet product requirements, considering factors such as product fragility, transportation conditions, and shelf appeal.

b)     Utilize CAD software and other design tools to create packaging prototypes and mock-ups.

c)  Conduct testing and evaluation of packaging prototypes to ensure performance and durability.

2)  Material Selection and Sourcing:

a)  Research and evaluate packaging materials, including plastics, paperboard, glass, and metals, to determine the most suitable options for each product.

b)  Identify and qualify suppliers for packaging materials, negotiating contracts and pricing agreements as needed.

3)  Packaging Compliance and Regulations:

a)  Stay updated on packaging regulations and industry standards, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations, including environmental regulations.

b)  Work closely with regulatory agencies to obtain necessary certifications and approvals for packaging materials and designs.

4)  Cost Optimization and Efficiency:

a)  Identify opportunities to optimize packaging processes and reduce costs while maintaining quality and performance standards.

b)  Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, logistics, and marketing, to streamline packaging workflows and improve efficiency.

5)  Sustainability Initiatives:

a)  Lead efforts to develop and implement sustainable packaging solutions, minimizing environmental impact and promoting corporate social responsibility.

b)  Research and recommend innovative packaging technologies and materials that support sustainability goals.

6)  Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement:

a)  Establish quality control procedures for packaging materials and processes, ensuring consistency and reliability.

b)  Monitor and analyze packaging performance metrics, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions as needed.

7)  Responsible to Work with Stake holder for understanding the requirement for developing a new equipment for new product or for an existing product packaging.

8)  Set-up a separate packaging Line or upgrading of existing line/Equipment’s or packaging at the end of the line as per the output capacity requirement.

9)  Responsible for line balancing, capacity calculation and line capacity finalization by conducting time study for packaging.

10) Responsible for understanding customer requirement and translate into technical specification by considering the product & Process characteristic, Safety, ergonomics, Poka-yoke, etc.

11) Create and develop concept drawing of making of layout for new assembly lines including end of line packaging, special purpose packaging machines, Jigs and fixtures- Tooling and gauges for all types of packaging.

12) Responsible for Sending an enquiry to different supplier to get quotes, make the techno commercial comparison and evaluate in terms of Function, Performance and Cost aspects.

13) Responsible for Raising the Capex by making the budgetary proposal along with justification for Management approval.

14) Preparing the capacity analysis and creating new facilities for packaging at all locations including warehouses.

KEY SKILLS:

·       Proven experience in packaging design and development, preferably in a manufacturing or consumer goods environment.

·       Strong knowledge of packaging materials, manufacturing processes, and quality standards.

·       Familiarity with packaging regulations and sustainability standards.

·       Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.

·       Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and levels of the organization.
