Job Description

Due to future expansion plans we are currently looking for driven, talented veterinary professionals with an interest in shelter medicine to join our diverse and friendly team at the SPCA (Hong Kong).

About us


Founded in 1921, The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (HK) is one of Asia’s leading animal welfare organisations with a 24 hour animal rescue and animal cruelty investigation service, 3 adoption centres, a large foster programme, 3 high quality high volume spay neuter programmes (including a cat TNR programme, a mobile surgical unit and a dedicated static spay neuter clinic facility) and other outreach programmes seven income generating clinics, plus a spay-neuter vehicle and designated spay neuter clinic. Our veterinary facilities include a 24-hour hospital, in-house diagnostic laboratory, digital and dental radiography, ultrasonography, ECG, endoscopy and modern surgical suites and our welfare work is supported by seven income generating clinics.

 

A new state-of-the-art animal welfare, veterinary and education centre is due to open during the second half of 2023 located in Tsing Yi, this will expand our capacity to serve even more animals in need alongside our current clinics.

 

About you (General)


We are seeking highly motivated individuals to join our Shelter Medicine Welfare team to assist with our companion animal welfare programmes and initiatives.


  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to work as a team

About you (Shelter Medicine Welfare Veterinary Surgeons)

  • Preferably a minimum of 2 years practical experience in the field of shelter medicine and / or HVHQ spay neuter programmes  
  • Post-graduate training / internship and/or a qualification in shelter medicine or related subject would be an advantage is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and within a team.
  • A willingness to travel around the region and a genuine interest in the welfare of all animals

 

About the Offer


  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience
  • Out-of-hours commission / compensation

  • Service gratuity on completion of every 2 years’ service
  • 5-day working week (including limited weekend work shared on a rostered basis), 6pm finish and limited out of hours  and weekend work
  • Annual leave – initially 22 days annual leave per year (increasing to 30 days with years of service)
  • Public holiday entitlement – 17 days per year
  • Sabbatical leave on completion of 3 years’ service and above
  • Continuing Professional Development (CPD) leave which increases with years of service

  • Hong Kong has a very low tax rate which is currently capped at a maximum of 17%
