Job Description

The Human Resources Specialist performs a variety of duties related to business professional recruitment/selection, employee information processing, and other duties as assigned. Essential job functions include:

  • Responsible for the recruitment and applicant tracking for non-attorney/non-timekeeper employees.
  • Reviews requirements with appropriate managers to determine employment needs and appropriate recruitment methods.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for the Applicant Tracking System and the applicable functionality.
  • Prepares and posts job openings; places advertisements in appropriate media including internal and external platforms.
  • Screens and conducts preliminary interviews of internal and external candidates for business professional positions.
  • Arranges for the employment of selected candidates by checking references, running conflicts checks, running background checks, preparing salary recommendations, and extending offers.
  • Administers testing and other related employment systems as needed.
  • Prepares all correspondence related to staff recruiting.
  • Maintains and updates recruitment database/recruitment files.
  • Maintains relationships with staffing agencies.
  • Oversees firmwide requests for temporary placements.
  • Maintains data metrics related to recruitment processes.
  • Provides assistance to employees and managers in the interpretation of personnel policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Investigates and/or answers employee’s payroll and benefit questions; directs questions to appropriate HR Contact when necessary.
  • Maintains confidential employee records and personnel files.
  • Prepares UltiPro (UKG) and payroll reports as needed.
  • Maintains and updates HR materials such as forms, manuals, employment law posters, etc.
  • Assists in the maintenance of firm Job Descriptions.
  • Assists with the preparation of the talent acquisition budget.
  • Conducts Exit Interviews with departing staff, and identifies trends in termination reasons.
  • Serves as HR point of contact for new staff.
  • Maintains organizational charts by administrative department.
  • Assists or completes projects as assigned by the Recruiting Manager – Business Professionals, Senior Manager – Talent
  • Acquisition & Workforce Planning, or Director of Human Resources.
  • Assists with planning, preparing, and coordinating firm events, only if located in Kansas City.
  • Special projects as needed.
